The Arts District of Winston-Salem (ADWS) hosts a monthly event on the 3rd Friday of the month (April - December). We call this event: ART CRUSH: plenty of art to love!
ART CRUSH 2022-2024 was a huge success. Over 500 artists shared and sold their work to over 30,000 attendees. A section of downtown is closed off to traffic for an evening that includes art, live performances, and make-it opportunities. We expect attendance to grow considerably as we gain traction and membership.
WHAT ADWS BELIEVES.
Art is a universal language and a source of connection that knows no boundaries. Our mission is to connect with and amplify diverse voices and visions, bringing them together at the heart of our city. Our vision as the Arts District of Winston-Salem is to foster a thriving community that inspires and advocates for creative opportunities. Through arts-centric events, local partnerships, and passionate community building, we simultaneously lift our artistic community, and reinforce and reinvigorate our city’s slogan of “The City of Arts and Innovation.”
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
- Performance Creatives
- Any genre of music is accepted
- In this application we are accepting performers for the center stage and DJ's/buskers for the entrance locations at opposites sides of the street.
SELECTION PROCESS
We choose up to 3 bands or groups for center stage every month and 1 DJ or busker for the surrounding areas for entertainment. Per the application of the month you apply we will notify you if you have been accepted 1 month prior to the event date.

For this free event, teams of artists will compete to build free-standing sculptures using various provided reused materials. The winning team will receive a one-of-a-kind Reconsidered Goods/The Art SHAC Reuse Trophy.
This event is open to ages 14+ Competitors may register as an individual or as a team (groups of 3 to 5). Individuals will be placed into teams of the day of the event.
Total of 5 teams will compete - team slots will be granted first come, first served. Additional registrant will be put on a waitlist!
There will be five teams of creatives/artists/makers. You will have 1 hour to meet your teammates, survey your provided materials, and develop a game plan. There can be NO TOUCHING of materials before the official
start time at 7 pm. This hour is also a great time to ask questions and clarify any rules previously sent. You will then have 1 hour and 15 minutes (75 minutes) to collaborate, create, and install your work. After judging, the works will remain on display until 9:30pm. All team activity and display of work must stay within the marked boundaries for your team. These areas will be taped off during the event.
