I can't believe these colors and patterns really exist in nature--unreal. This is a piece of fossil coral--unless you mistook it for a floral painting...
I've wrapped it in 22k gold on a backplate of argentium sterling silver. The fossil is surrounded by a lush progression of stones on 14k gold headpins--sapphires, tanzanite, mexican fire opal and spessartite garnet. The pendant suspends from a sterling silver chain that adjusts from 16 to 18 inches.
Crazy beautiful color.

I've a degree in biology and have always been fascinated by the anatomy and morphology of plants and animals. At the same time, I've felt a strong pull to design and create. Transforming gemstones, wire, and sheets of metal into flowers, vines, and botanical abstractions is a natural culmination of these two paths.
My work explores leaf and petal motifs and the rhythmic rise-and-fall wave patterns found in nature. While freeform and organic, my creations are tempered by an underlying nod to structure and balance. The juxtaposition of raw and organic with delicate and romantic accents is another common theme.
In the studio, I often combine wire wrapping with traditional metalsmithing techniques in unique and original ways. I frequently pair wire-wrapped fringe accents with bezel-set stones.
