I've a degree in biology and have always been fascinated by the anatomy and morphology of plants and animals. At the same time, I've felt a strong pull to design and create. Transforming gemstones, wire, and sheets of metal into flowers, vines, and botanical abstractions is a natural culmination of these two paths.
My work explores leaf and petal motifs and the rhythmic rise-and-fall wave patterns found in nature. While freeform and organic, my creations are tempered by an underlying nod to structure and balance. The juxtaposition of raw and organic with delicate and romantic accents is another common theme.
In the studio, I often combine wire wrapping with traditional metalsmithing techniques in unique and original ways. I frequently pair wire-wrapped fringe accents with bezel-set stones.
