The Wood, Fire, Smoke Festival, presented by: Smoking In The Foothills Inc. is a celebration of our heritage and commitment to art, design, and innovation. A collection of skilled craftsmen, artisans, and chefs will converge downtown, highlighting the ingenuity that put Lenoir on the map. Set in beautiful historic downtown Lenoir, Wood, Fire, Smoke offers loads of fabulous vendors, restaurants, bars, shops, live musical entertainment, attractions, and exhibitors. In past years we have seen 15,000+ festival-goers enjoy The Smoking in the Foothills BBQ festival, and Wood, Fire, Smoke 2022 promises to be another fabulous fall festival as we transition in a new direction! Come celebrate with us on October 8, 2022, and have your senses entangled by the raw elements of Wood, Fire, and Smoke! Festival hours: Saturday 10:00am-7:00pm, followed by a ticketed luxurious BBQ-themed dinner to take place from 7:00pm-9:00pm. Wood, Fire, Smoke is a city-sponsored event produced by: Smoking In The Foothills Inc.

WNC Sculpture Center Iron Pour

Things are about to heat up as WNC Sculpture Center puts on a dazzling display of fire, metal and heat. Come watch as they reduce raw metal to molten lava before pouring it into artistic molds. Once cooled these one of a kind artistic Iron Pour pieces will be auctioned off. 

This process uses a coke fueled cupola metal furnace and the iron is all repurposed cast iron radiators, bathtubs, sinks, manifolds, etc. This labor intensive process includes breaking the iron with sledgehammers by hand the foundry coke to fit the size of the furnace being used. Once hot, approximately 100 pounds of iron are tapped from the furnace every 12 minutes. Attendees of the BBQ Festival will have the opportunity to purchase blank iron tile molds to carve a custom design, watch the molds be poured in person and take them home with them at the end of the event.

All pieces made during the Spectacle Events will be auctioned off via Silent Auction. Winners will be announced at 7pm.

The Metaled Company - Hammer Forging

Sparks are gonna fly as the hammer falls in The Metaled Company spectacle space. Watch as these talented craftsmen hammer super heated metal to their will. Specializing in Architectural & Decorative metal design, these guys are sure to put on a good show. All pieces made during the Spectacle Events will be auctioned off via Silent Auction. Winners will be announced at 7pm.

Nature's Wonderland Carvings

James Miller is the award winning artist/owner of Nature's Wonderland Carvings. He has been adding unique artistic twist to chainsaw craving since 2015.

Meet the guy bringing back that 90's country sound!

Alex Key is a more traditional country singer, songwriter and Nashville recording artist, quickly making waves in the music world. Alex comes from a small town in NC called Wilkesboro where he grew up on multi-generation family farm listening to music inspiration of all kinds. He was raised on some of the greats like George strait, Alan Jackson, Randy Travis, etc.. and this is where Alex believes his love for classic country began. Fast forward to present day; Alex’s first ever album “Barstools and Saddles” (released in late April of 2021) received rave reviews by fans and critics, has hit the top 40 on iTunes world wide country charts multiple times after songs like “The Fool That I Am” (of which the video was featured on CMT) “Sleep Talking” and (just recently) "The Cowboy Stayed" went viral on TikTok! The album has been streamed several million times.
