About the event
Join us for an exciting outdoor outfitter's maker workshop event hosted by Camp Outpost Inc. at the picturesque Glacial Till Vineyard, located southeast of Lincoln, Nebraska, in Otoe County, near the township of Palmyra. "Wilderness Candle Crafting: An Artisan Maker Workshop" is a unique experience that combines the art of candle making with the exploration of local Nebraska flora. This event is not just a crafting workshop; it's a gateway to outdoor recreation and a deeper connection with the natural beauty that surrounds us. The event begins with a brief educational session led by a local naturalist who will introduce you to the diverse and beautiful flora that Nebraska has to offer. Learn about the various plants, flowers, and herbs that are native to the region. At the pop-up workshop site within the Glacial Till Vineyard, you'll be provided with all the necessary materials and instructions to create your own custom candle using a variety of locally procured flora we’ve collected, dried, and preserved. As you craft your candles amidst the stunning backdrop of Glacial Till Vineyard, you'll gain a deeper appreciation for Nebraska's natural world and the importance of preserving its beauty. You’ll meet fellow outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers during the event. Exchange stories, tips, and ideas for future outdoor activities and conservation efforts, building a community of like-minded individuals passionate about Nebraska's wilderness. At the end of the workshop, you'll leave with your candle and hopefully a new friend or two to invite to your next campfire. Your ticket includes a complimentary glass of cider tastings and glasses available for purchase by Glacial Till!

Camp Outpost Inc. is a nonprofit social enterprise organization that believes outdoor recreation should be accessible to all, regardless of their background, ability, or circumstance. Our mission is to champion inclusivity and accessibility while focusing on community-enrichment, women's empowerment, youth programs, adaptive outdoor recreation, and fostering participation among underrepresented populations in the outdoor industry. Camp Outpost Inc. has made a commitment to making outdoor recreation experiences a reality for those who face barriers to access. We offer a range of year-round programs and services that foster inclusivity and empower individuals to connect with nature. Historically, we have served through a local outdoor outfitter, Neighborhood Offshore; we’ve hosted dozens of camps and focused on programming for local schools and nonprofits. Now, as an independent non-profit, we look forward to continuing and advancing our year-round outdoor offerings. Our two primary objectives: OBJECTIVE ONE: Create a More Inclusive and Diverse Outdoor Community OBJECTIVE TWO: Universally Increase Participation in Outdoor Recreation Activities Our key initiatives to increase participation in outdoor recreation are guided outdoor adventures, tailored programs and workshops, overnight overnight camping experiences, adaptive programming for individuals with disabilities, and youth-focused activities. Camp Outpost Inc. aims to pave the way for an inclusive outdoor industry, serving as a model for other outfitters to adopt inclusive practices and policies incorporated into their day-to-day operations and service offerings. We are tackling participation barriers that stem from a lack of outdoor recreation exposure in communities, to adaptive programming, to creating a financially viable model for recreation engagement.
