Volunteer for the 39th Annual Ham & Yam Festival! The Ham & Yam Festival is Smithfield's largest community event, attracting over 10,000 visitors each year to our historic downtown for a day filled with food, music, and fun activities. Volunteers are at the heart of making this festival a success, and we need your help to create an unforgettable experience for our guests! As a volunteer, you’ll play an important role in ensuring the smooth operation of the festival, from assisting vendors to helping with event setup and engaging with attendees. Volunteer hours will be tracked and can be reported for individuals or organizations that wish to keep track of their service hours. By volunteering, you’ll gain valuable skills and experience that can enhance your resume and give you an inside look into event planning and community engagement. Ham & Yam Festival Volunteer Terms & Conditions By volunteering for the 39th Annual Ham & Yam Festival, you agree to the following terms and conditions: Arrival & Punctuality Volunteers must arrive 10 minutes before their scheduled shift to ensure a smooth transition between shifts and to receive any last-minute instructions. Dress Code Volunteers will receive an official festival t-shirt, which must be worn during your shift to identify yourself as a festival volunteer. Conduct & Appearance Volunteers must be sober, clean, and ready to work. You are representing the Town of Smithfield, and any inappropriate behavior, including offensive language, unprofessional conduct, or disruptive actions, will not be tolerated and may result in removal from the event. Duty Expectations Volunteers will be assigned specific duties prior to the event and are expected to perform these duties without supervision. Training will be provided, and a list of expectations will be shared ahead of the event. Please ensure you read and understand the requirements. Mandatory Orientation All volunteers are required to attend a mandatory orientation session on April 16th at 5 PM. This session will provide essential information and ensure everyone is prepared for their role. Compensation for Extended Shifts Volunteers working a shift of 8 hours or more will receive a $10 coupon to be redeemed with any food vendor at the event or at any downtown restaurant open during festival hours. Health & Safety Volunteers must follow all health and safety protocols in place during the event, including but not limited to, any relevant local government guidelines. Communication Volunteers must be accessible by phone or email for any event-day updates or changes to their assigned duties. Removal from Event Volunteers who fail to follow these terms and conditions or demonstrate unprofessional conduct may be asked to leave the event without receiving their volunteer benefits or rewards.
