Anime Festival Orlando (AFO) 2025 Volunteering Policies and Procedures
Please read carefully and entirely.
Eligibility: Individuals must be age 18 on or before June 1st, 2025 to register as a volunteer for AFO. Minors will not be accepted. By accepting a volunteer position with AFO, volunteers agree to donate their time and services in exchange for a 3-day weekend pass to the event. In exchange for the waived registration fee, volunteers are expected to adhere to all policies and procedures as outlined below.
GENERAL POLICIES:
Have fun! Fun is a core value of AFO and volunteers are encouraged to participate in the convention so long as participation does not interfere with assigned duties.
Be polite! AFO models diversity, equity, and inclusion as core values. Absolutely NO rudeness will be tolerated. Volunteers will treat everyone with respect, dignity, and courtesy and without discrimination of any kind. There’s a zero tolerance policy when it comes to behavior that violates these policies. If any questions arise, volunteers are to reach out to their direct supervisor for clarification. In the event of an adverse situation, volunteers are expected to make every effort to deescalate without confronting or threatening the offending party. Volunteers will refer any situation requiring escalation to the Volunteer Manager(s) and Constables (event security).
Dress Code: Volunteers are responsible for presenting a positive and professional image while representing AFO. Shirt and shoes are required at all times. Profane or X-rated clothing/costumes are not allowed. Weapons may not be carried at any time. As a courtesy to all, we ask for volunteers to practice clean personal hygiene. A single t-shirt will be given, at no charge, to each registered volunteer to wear for the weekend. Additional t-shirts may be available for a small charge, if requested. Light cosplay is allowed while on duty so long as the provided t-shirt is prominently visible and costuming does not impair the volunteer's movement or vision.
Scheduling: Volunteers agree to work a minimum of 13 hours in exchange for a waived convention weekend registration fee. This is broken down into a selection of 3 day shifts and 1 night shift over the course of the weekend. These shifts are based on the availability provided and are subject to change according to business needs, at the discretion of the Volunteer Manager, Department Leadership, or AFO Director. Volunteers acknowledge that no monetary compensation is given or expected for time worked.
Training: Volunteers must attend a mandatory orientation session unless specifically directed otherwise. 2025 orientations will occur virtually via Discord and will be announced no more than 10 days prior to AFO weekend. If accepted as a volunteer, a link to the AFO Volunteer Discord channel will be sent via e-mail to the applicant. E-mail volunteer@animefestivalorlando.com if you require assistance or have questions.
Non-disclosure: Volunteers shall maintain the privacy and confidentiality of AFO. Volunteers will not disclose any internal policies or information, distribute confidential materials, or engage in unsanctioned press activity. Any and all information pertaining to the internal workings of AFO or any AFO staff activities may not be discussed, emailed, posted, or disseminated in any way. Failure to comply will result in immediate termination of volunteering with AFO and will be prohibited from future volunteer experiences.
AFO retains the right to modify these policies and procedures at any time with or without notice. Volunteers are expected to perform other duties as assigned by the Volunteer Manager or other direct supervisor.
