WSP Pride Volunteer Application

message May require minimal lifting to help vendors set up their tents. Primarily, this involves setting up a table or two, hanging up decorations, and picking up any trash leftover from the previous days in the hockey rink.

message Generally super quick. Taking down decorations. Picking up minimal trash because we aren’t monsters.

message Upon arrival, help set up the info tent and related signage. Assist vendors in finding their location when they begin arriving at 9am, either on a map or in the park if they're having trouble finding it. Vendors spots will be mapped out and marked prior to the event, so it's really just helping our vendors get settled in and assisting with questions they might have. Help with decorating or other setup work if not needed.

message Decorating the whole park with everything we have: flags, signs, banners, streamers etc. Setting up a photo area. Minimal lifting, potentially minimal climbing on a ladder if folks want to go real wild. Definitely an opportunity to involve the whole family!

message Make sure the concession stand is open, water jugs are filled, freezer is filled with ice, charcoal is in the grill, organized and ready for people to access starting at 11:30. Some lifting, but help available for it.

message Set up a tent and signage, along with a kid's area with yard games, face painting, craft projects, etc. and creating a space welcoming for kiddos! Minimal lifting with folding table, tent, and chairs, but assistance will be available.

message Set up tables and silent auction items in a neat and orderly fashion with guidance. Very minimal lifting. May not even take the full hour. Help with additional decorating around the park as time permits.

message Handing out hot dogs, chips, etc. to folks that come through. Making sure condiments stay stocked. Mostly standing. May end early if food runs out before 2.

message Cooking 500 hot dogs on a charcoal grill. Assisting with getting food handed out to folks as they come through the line for a community lunch. Mostly standing. Might end early if food runs out.

message Located under the info tent, answer questions, direct people to where they need to go, collect donations, point where things are with a map, sell and collect payments for WSP Pride shirts, hand out free swag. Will be located close to the entertainment, so may be loud at times. Option to sit or stand.

message Located underneath a tent. Create a safe and welcoming space for kiddos to have some time to do kiddo things. Help with simple craft projects, temporary tattoos, and paint faces or hands. High-level art skills are not required! Will be near outdoor games for people to play.

message Moving throughout the grounds and get your steps in with a friend. Reporting any unusual or threatening behavior to lead security person or WSP Pride Board of Directors. Assist in getting attendees away from uncomfortable situations. Checking water dispensers to make sure they're full; refilling as needed and using wagon to bring them back and forth. Full transparency: we've never had any security issues at WSP Pride.

message Act as the go-to person for all other security people. Able to move quickly throughout the park, address any security concerns, be comfortable with minimal confrontation, de-escalate situations as needed. Assist in getting attendees away from uncomfortable situations. Make determination on when/if 911 is to be called in collaboration with WSP Pride Board of Directors. Full transparency: we've never had any security issues at WSP Pride. Plenty of breaks available!

message Cleaning up afterward. Everyone is generally wonderful about cleaning up throughout the day, and we always want to leave the park better than how it looked when we arrived. Pick up errant trash, load up supplies for organizers, and thank vendors as they pack up. Many hands make for much lighter work and the organizers really need the help at this point during the weekend!
