Role Description: Vice Chair
Please Note: This is a volunteer role, it is not a paid position at this time. The vice chair takes over for the chair when the chair is absent. The vice chair has the same duties and powers as the chair, including presiding over meetings, making difficult decisions, and responding to requests from the chair. The vice chair is also usually the first person considered to fill in for the chair if they are unable to perform the role. To prepare for this, the chair should regularly liaise with the vice chair and ensure they know enough about the organization's current issues to stand in for the chair at short notice.
Vice chair should be
-An open, positive communicator.
-A coach, mentor, and cheerleader.
-A creative problem solver
-Present, available, and approachable
-A mediator and de-escalator
-Good at handling tense situations
-Able to cut through the noise to make complex problems simple and help leaders make decisions.
-Trustworthy and financially responsible to hold a convention credit card.
Chair Duties that may be supported by Vice Chair:
-Perform the role of DD-level when needed to fill gaps and address support needs.
-Identify opportunities to grow the show
-Remove roadblocks for team members.
-Budget review and responsibility
-Contracts oversight
-Project management of show planning
-Support the mission and vision of the organization
-Champion diversity and inclusion
-Be aware of market research: convention, industry, fan trends
-Able to work with the chair and support task delegation.
-Able to handle leading the show team as needed.
