The early part of the 20th century was a time of monumental growth and change in the world.

Modernization, an intellectual, scientific and cultural revolution, including interest in the unconscious, provoked artists into experimentation and new terrain. Abstraction shook Western art to its core. It confronted audiences with vivid visual poetry devoid of representational imagery. Expression was characterized by shocking juxtapositions of color, light, and line.

These artists abandoned convention and played with new materials: commercial paints, housepainter’s brushes, unstretched canvas, working on the floor, using hands, sticks and experimental tools. Think Kandinsky, Klee, Rothko, Frankenthaler, Pollock, and Rauschenberg (to name just a few).

Moving forward to now, the realm of Abstraction has only deepened with process driven artists exploring new concepts, materials, tools, sites, and collaborations.

Today, we invite all ABSTRACT ARTISTS to showcase the magic of nonrepresentational work; art with NO discernible visual reference to our day to day worlds. Now is the time to push boundaries and express yourself!

This juried show is open to all Artists’ Network members and non-members.

Submit up to 3 artworks. All mediums are welcome with no size restrictions although submitting works of varying sizes is helpful as we expect a large number of submissions and wish to accommodate as many artists as possible.

Please do not submit representational work or any work that has been previously shown at an Artists’ Network, Leslie Grove Gallery show.

The exhibition is from September 25 to October 13, 2024. The deadline for submissions is September 15.

There is a $50 + HST, $56.50 total non-refundable application fee which is charged upon application. MEMBER DISCOUNT*: Artists' Network Members can save $15 by using discount code: MEMBER15 This will reduce your application fee by $15 and you will pay $35.00 + HST = $39.55 *Discount code must be used at time of submission As this is a juried show, not all submissions will be accepted.

IMPORTANT! Please be sure you ADD INFO for each image. Failure to do so may result in a forfeited submission. Please note the following: - The maximum number of artworks submitted should be between ONE to THREE artworks. We will not jury more than three artworks in a submission. - Photos of your artwork MUST be high quality and properly cropped without frame or blank space, in order to be considered and included in the online gallery. - If your artwork is framed, please add additional supporting images to show how each artwork will be displayed when framed. - "Category" is the medium (i.e. acrylic, oil, mixed media, clay, glass, ink). Only indicate a couple key materials used, if absolutely relevant. - All prices should be in Canadian dollar (CAD). - "Brief Description" is an opportunity to provide specific information on the specified artwork in your submissions to further inform jurors. - Dimensions should be in INCHES as Height x Width x Depth, in this specific order.
