This immersive, live museum experience invites audiences on a journey through the hidden yet essential narratives of Black Americans, honoring the sanctuaries that have kept our culture alive when society refused to listen—the Underground Railroad, the Green Book, and hidden codes in our music. From slave songs that led people to freedom to the birth of blues, jazz, rock ‘n’ roll, and hip-hop, Black art has always been more than art for art’s sake. It has been our voice, our STORY, our protest, our history, and our hope.
These sanctuaries were our briar patches, safe havens where we could nurture our culture, strengthen our resolve, and prepare for progress. The Black Underground Experience celebrates this enduring spirit of resilience and resistance.
