Stains of Midsommar with Loretta Lynn
Starts on Saturday, June 15th, 2024
Northport, Alabama, United States
About the event
Join Loretta Lynn just prior to the summer solstice as you honor our connection with the natural world through plant magic, flower pounding, and simple stitching. Explore, nurture, experiment, and play as you set positive intentions for yourself on fabric for this season of the sun. Almost all supplies for this class are included, but each participant will need to bring their own hammer. If you are so inclined, feel free to bring some of your flowers, charms, or fiber scraps to incorporate! This class is limited to ages 18+. The minimum for this course is 4, and the maximum is 10. If the class does not meet the minimum, participants will be refunded. Tickets are non-refundable once the registration deadline ends. Please email Mary Bell, Program Manager, at mbell@kentuck.org with any questions.  Kentuck workshops are non-refundable after the registration closes. If you would like to cancel before the deadline passes, please email mbell@kentuck.org or call 205-758-1257. If the class does not meet the minimum by the registration deadline and the workshop is cancelled, all participants will be refunded their registration fees. About Loretta Lynn: Loretta Lynn is a self taught fiber artist creating non-traditional embroideries and wearable art. Her unique visual language often integrates her Catholic upbringing with her current practices of paganism using imagery from nature and the divine. Born in New York, Loretta performed as a dancer, performance artist, and garage-punk guitarist throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of New York at New Paltz with a double major in Dance and Psychology and a minor in Philosophy. She received her Master’s Degree in Dance Movement Therapy from Pratt Institute. She currently works as a Dance Therapist in Special Education. During a challenging time, Loretta learned how to knit from a four year old at a karate dojo, which she found kept her present & focused. She expanded her fiber practice to include drawing with embroidery floss and incorporating eco-dyed fabrics, created with encouragement from her friend and mentor, Aaron Sanders Head. Loretta has shown work at the Tuscaloosa Art Center’s annual 8x8 shows, group shows at Kentuck Art Center, Aaron Sanders Head Studio, the Jessie Lavon and Friends Folk Art Gatherings, Magnolia Grove, and at the Pratt Manhattan Gallery in the Puck Building (NYC). She co-curated the April 2023 Wellness Walls for Art show at University Medical Center. This is her first solo show. Loretta lives in Tuscaloosa with her husband, Christopher, a Professor of Anthropology at the University of Alabama, is the mother of triplet sons Jagger, Bailey, and Lux,and has 4 dogs. Made possible in part by the Alabama State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
