The Red Poppy Festival is Georgetown’s premier event, celebrated in the most beautiful town square in Texas. Held annually on the last full weekend of April, this FREE festival spans three days, packed with live music, diverse entertainment, and family-friendly activities, alongside a bustling array of over 100 artisan vendors. Last year's festival boasted more than 20 live performances, a dedicated Kid’s Zone, a classic Car Show, three food courts, a lively parade, roaming entertainment, and the whimsical Poppy Pupp Parade. The event has a long history, with an incredible amount of community support, last year marked the festival’s 25th year.
The name ‘Red Poppy Festival’ commemorates a significant moment in Georgetown’s history; On April 25, 1990, when Georgetown earned the official title of “Red Poppy Capital of Texas,” a distinction recognized by both local residents and the Texas Legislature. For over a century, red poppies have flourished in Georgetown's streets, vacant lots, parks, and gardens. Remarkably, Georgetown is among the few places in the United States where these vibrant flowers naturally reseed themselves each year. Every April, as the red poppies burst into bloom, Georgetown celebrates their enduring beauty with the beloved Red Poppy Festival.
