We will meet in the Ellettsville IGA parking lot at 5:45 am to consolidate vehicles, but be sure to check your phone as a text will be sent out the afternoon before IF we have to change plans!

Experience Some of Monroe County's Best Birding Locations
We are excited to offer this exploration of top birding sites in Monroe County as our Spring Big Time Birding experience! Monroe County offers a wide variety of habitats, and hence a wide variety of bird species, for Rainbow Birders to explore. The specific itinerary will be set closer to the outing and will be based on birding conditions. Locations we may visit include: Griffy Lake Nature Preserve, Beanblossom Bottoms Nature Preserve, Flatwoods Park, Stillwater Marsh Waterfowl Resting Area, various locations around Lake Monroe, Clear Creek Trail, Jackson Creek Trail, Switchyard Park, and Lake Lemon.
Although this may start earlier than many of us want to get up, it is the only way to be there for the wonderful morning bird chorus before and as the sun rises! This is a not-to-miss birding experience!
Big Time Birding
Our goal will be to enjoy a variety of birds from before sunrise to mid-afternoon. This is a great time to look for warblers, vireos, flycatchers, orioles, and many other species!

To participate in this event, purchase a $10 ticket. This money supports the work of Spencer Pride, Inc.
What to Bring/Prepare

- Suncreen
- Hat
- Sturdy waterproof shoes or boots
- Insect repellent
- Binoculars (if you have!)
- Rainbow Birders Punchcard (if you have)
- State Park Pass (if you have)
- Watch the weather to see if you need rain gear
- Dress in layers as we will be outside in a range of temperatures and conditions
Accessibility Information
This trip will involve hiking unlevel terrains and is not suitable for individuals utilizing a wheelchair or motorized scooter.
There could be some longer walks and we can't guarantee the footing conditions.
Comfort stops will be provided at reasonable intervals throughout the day.
