About the event
Calling all anglers, both seasoned and new! Get ready to have a REEL-y good time at the 10th Annual Kid Fish event! This is the perfect opportunity for Rowlett families to introduce kids to the joys of fishing and appreciating the great outdoors. Rowlett Community Park will be stocked to the GILLS with catfish (500 pounds to be exact!), so grab your rods and let’s make some FIN-tastic memories. In addition to the fishing competition, a kids’ zone will be available throughout the event with games and activities, food trucks, and a Texas Parks and Wildlife interpreter will be on hand to share insightful information about nature. Kid Fish Registration Information: The Kid Fish contest is open exclusively to anglers ages 17 and younger. Awards will be given to the participant with the longest fish in each of our four age groups (1-5, 6-9, 10-14, 15-17). While adults are welcome to assist their children (and we truly appreciate the support of families), we kindly ask that adults refrain from fishing until the children's event concludes at 1 PM. Afterward, everyone is invited to continue fishing together! Registration Link >> https://www.eventeny.com/onsite/survey/?e=17212&s=1305 Important Details: • Pre-registering online is strongly encouraged to speed up the check-in process. Signup by March 19 through our Eventeny link. • Free fishing kits will be provided on a first-come, first serve basis while supplies last. Fishing kits will be provided to children who are registered and present in the order they arrive – arriving early strongly encouraged! • Prizes will be awarded for the longest fish in each of the four age groups (1-5, 6-9, 10-14, 15-17). Fish must be caught by the child between 9:30 AM-12 PM and measured and recorded by staff. Awards will be announced at 12:15 PM. Need to Know: • 500 pounds of catfish will be released in the pond prior to the event. We ask that all participants practice catch and release during the event. • Bring your own gear if you have it - To ensure as many as possible get the opportunity to participate, we encourage those who have their own fishing gear to bring it so we can spread the love. • Dress in Layers – Texas weather is finicky, and this is an outdoor event – dress accordingly. • It’s highly recommended to bring a chair or blanket. • Fishing Licenses - Children ages 16 years and younger do not require a Texas fishing license. Individuals aged 17 and older are required by law to possess a valid Texas fishing license. Licenses can be purchased online or at a local sporting goods store. • New to Fishing? Texas Parks and Wildlife has a number of videos and resources.
