About the event
The Joplin Empire Market and the Downtown Joplin Alliance will be hosting the 6th Annual Empire Market Chili Cookoff at the Market on January 18, 2025!
Awards will be given for 1st place, 2nd place and 3rd place, as well as People's Choice.
Judging begins at 10:00am and public tasting is from 10:30am-2pm (or when the chili runs out!).
Hear what the judges have to say and then cast your vote for whose chili is best in the People’s Choice Award!
Admission into the tasting hall will be $5 - this grants access to taste all chili and vote in the People's Choice. You can prepay or buy a tasting ticket at the door. All proceeds will support the Newton Community Kitchen!

We are in need of several volunteers to help us make sure that Chili Cook-Off runs smoothly for contestants and attendees. We are looking for 2 people to run the chili sampling ticket counter, selling tickets and assisting guests with chili fixin's. We are also looking for 2 people to help at our Info Desk, a floater to assist where ever needed throughout the day and a few people to help us clean-up after the event is over. This is one of the market's busiest and most loved events...which means it's a ton of fun to be apart of!
