Meet Outpost, a nonprofit outdoor outfitter dedicated to increasing outdoor recreation participation in Nebraska while focusing on historically underrepresented populations in the outdoor industry. Our mission is to break down barriers to participation, one adventure at a time, making outdoor activities accessible to everyone in the community- regardless of age, background, ability, or circumstance. Camp Outpost Inc. aims to pave the way for a local inclusive outdoor industry, serving as a model for other outfitters to adopt universally inclusive practices and policies incorporated into day-to-day operations and service offerings. We are tackling participation barriers that stem from a lack of outdoor recreation exposure in communities, to adaptive programming, to creating a financially viable model for recreation engagement. Enhanced outdoor recreation serves as a vital social service. By providing accessible and inclusive outdoor opportunities, we create spaces for social interaction, collaboration, and community-building, strengthening bonds among individuals and fostering a sense of belonging. Moreover, these initiatives contribute to the revitalization of public spaces, promoting environmental stewardship and civic engagement. Through enhanced outdoor recreation, we address social inequalities, promote equity, and create vibrant, resilient, and thriving neighborhoods for all residents to enjoy and benefit from.
