INFORMATION, INSTRUCTIONS AND RULES
1. The standard block size is 10’ x 10’. There are a limited number of additional block sizes and vertical boards. In the following questions, please select the block size you would prefer. Final decision on block allocation is decided by the Chalktoberfest Jury Committee. Be aware, if you are chosen to participate in the festival, you may be asked to default to a 10’ x 10’ block.
2. The surface of the streets is black asphalt. White and black tempera will be provided by MCMA for your chalk block base. A tempera base MUST be used before you start on your piece
3. Black and white tempera, pans and rollers are supplied by MCMA and can be found at their Artist Oasis tent at the festival. After use, Artists must clean and return supplies to Artist Oasis. Artists MUST clean and remove all preparation materials away from the festival area prior to the start of Chalktoberfest.
4. MCMA will Provide black duct tape for the artists to outline blocks. Artists must tape their own block with the tape provided. Chalk blocks are required to be 10’ x 10’ unless larger sizes are requested by artist and approved by Sally Macaulay.
5. Artists are responsible for all materials including, but not limited to chalk, gloves, paper towels, blending tools, baby wipes, etc.
6. Artist TRAVEL stipends will be awarded based on distance traveled and availability of funds. The travel stipend is determined by your location and is capped at $500.00. This stipend should cover air fare and rental car. If artists travel together, the check will be made payable to the party providing the transportation.
7. Hotel - MCMA provides and pays for three (3) nights Friday, October 11 through Sunday, October 13, 2019. If you require any additional nights, MCMA will negotiate pricing at our sponsor hotel on your behalf; however, the additional cost is your responsibility. If you do not need a hotel for Sunday night, October 13, 2019, please notify us in the questions below. Rooms have two queen or one king bed as per your request. We require artists room together to save on costs. If you choose to have your own room, or have a non-artist stay with you, then $50 per night will be taken from your stipend. MCMA will do all in our power to accommodate hotel accommodation requests.
8. Artists must arrive on time and stay for the duration of the Festival and/or until their piece is completed. If you do not complete your piece or if you do not remain on site until the festival is over, you will forfeit part if not all of your travel stipend at Director’s discretion.
9. Artists are required to wear the current year’s Chalktoberfest t-shirt, provided by MCMA, for the duration of the festival. Two t-shirts will be provided to the artist; one for each day of festival.
10. MCMA will conduct a People’s Choice Award contest. 1st 2nd and 3rd place winners will be announced at the conclusion of the festival.
11. Chalktoberfest will be hosting bands throughout the weekend. An artist’s personal music must not be heard by others. Ear buds are permitted; however, we prefer that artists interact with the festival guests, to assist us in fulfilling our mission of “building community through art.”
12. Artist agrees to permit MCMA to use their name, website, social media, and artwork images for any promotional purposes for this and/or future festivals.
13. Dietary needs - MCMA will provide meals to our professional artists. We do our very best to accommodate the dietary needs of our artists; however, as our food is often donated, we can not guarantee that your specific needs will be met.
14. Artist Blocks will be mapped out and assigned by the MCMA according to sizes previously determined. MCMA requests help by the artists to tape the blocks on Friday at 1PM.
15. Tip Jars are encouraged. One tip jar is permitted per artist and must be provided by individual artists. Please make sure your name is on your tip jar.
