3rd Annual Downtown Doxie Dash

LaBelle Downtown Revitalization Corporation (LDRC) brings the 4th Annual Howl-O-Ween & 3rd Annual Downtown Doxie Dash! Bring your furry friends (and human friends) to Barron Park for a spooktacularly good time! Costume Contest! Downtown Doxie Dash! Food Trucks! Entertainment! Cold Beer! Fun things to do with your dog!

Join us for the 3rd Annual Downtown Doxie Dash! The cutest race EVER is scheduled for Saturday, October 22nd at 10:15am in Barron Park in Downtown LaBelle.

This year, we dedicate the Downtown Doxie Dash to our friend Lenny LaForest. Lenny played a vital role in making the Doxie Dash into the greatness that it is today. The world lost Lenny last year. He has left a big hole in the Dachshund racing scene but we are doing our best to fill his shoes! 

We have a NEW GATE for the 2022 Race! This year, we have a start line with a gate so only one human will be needed in order to race.

Rules and Regulations

1. Participating canines must be purebred dachshunds. If registering for the wiener wannabe category, the dog must be small enough to fit in the gate opening. The opening is 18" wide and 24" in height. There are no weight or age restrictions.
   
   
2.  Only the dachshunds registered to race are allowed in the Downtown Doxie Dash (no spectator canines are allowed.) A total of 100 canines will be allowed to participate. All must be pre-registered prior to October 21, 2022 at 12:00 pm.
   
   
3. Each dachshund will race 50 yards on the Downtown Doxie Dash track.
   
   
4. Each participating dachshund will need to bring one human. Humans must be able to carry and catch the dog while standing/walking on a dirt surface.
   
   
5. One human will carry the canine to the starting line and place the canine in the gated area. That human will walk to the finish line to catch the racing canine.
   
   
6. All humans must clean up after their canines and dispose of any waste in trash cans. No waste can be left on the ground or on the track.
   
   
7. All humans are required to sign a consent waiver releasing LaBelle Downtown Revitalization Corporation (LDRC), The City of LaBelle, and Hendry County from all liabilities and allowing LDRC to use their names and likenesses in promotional advertising. (Signing the consent waiver must be completed before race time).
   
   
8. The humans may coax their runners with a favorite chew toy and/or calling the canines. No dog whistles or other shrill whistles are allowed. Nothing breakable is allowed on the racing surface. No throwing of objects/toys is allowed. No balloons. Please no treats/goodies/food to coax your dog. Treats can be given off the track.
   
9. Humans should not carry any loose articles on the racetrack. Humans should wear comfortable shoes.
   
   
10. Participant check-in on October 22nd will be at Barron Park. All contestants must arrive prior to 10:00 am. At check-in, each canine will be provided their qualifying heat information and timeline of events. You must pay in advance in order to participate. 
    
    
11. Participants will be responsible for bringing their canine to their designated race (an announcement will be made). Participants are not allowed in the race area until their designated race.
    
    
12. Participating canines are not allowed trackside except for their individual race.
    
    
13. Upon completion of the wiener dog race, all participants MUST RETURN their dog's assigned racing bandana to personnel and exit the race area.
    
    
14. The winner from each qualifying heat will receive a prize and advance to the Final scheduled later on the race card on Saturday, October 22, 2022. The winners of the Final will receive a 1st place trophy, a 2nd place finisher receives a 2nd place trophy, and 3rd place finisher receives a 3rd place trophy.
    
    
15. Remember these races are for fun only! Judges' decisions are final. For the safety of everyone concerned, LDRC reserves the right to refuse participation to humans and canines that don't meet all qualifications of the race. Any aggressive canines or canines exhibiting dangerous behavior will be asked to exit the Track.
    
    
16. The dog must be up to date on all shots, including rabies vaccination. The owner must provide proof by the day of the event if not submitted in advance.

ABSOLUTELY NO AGGRESSIVE DOGS ARE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE. If an LDRC volunteer sees your dog being aggressive towards another animal or human, you will be asked to remove him/her from the park. NO EXCEPTIONS! Animals must be leashed. Please pick up after your pet. Remember, even if no one sees your dog poop, it doesn't mean it didn't happen so PICK IT UP!

Accident Waiver/Release of Liability & Media Release
I acknowledge and agree that I am age 18 or older.
I acknowledge that participating in LDRC 3rd Annual Downtown Doxie Dash carries with it the potential for serious injury and/or death.
The risks include but are not limited to, those caused by facilities, equipment, actions of other people including, but not limited to participants, volunteers, spectators, event officials, and event monitors, and/or producers of the event. I hereby assume all of the risks of participating and/or volunteering in this event.
I realize that liability may arise from negligence or carelessness on the part of persons or entities being released, from dangerous or defective equipment or property owned, maintained, or controlled by them, or because of their possible liability without fault.
I certify that a qualified medical person has not advised me against participation in this event.
I acknowledge that this accident waiver and release of liability will be used by the event holder, sponsors, and organizers in events in which I may participate and that it will govern my actions and responsibilities at said events.

In consideration of my application and permitting me to participate in this event, I hereby take action for myself, my executors, administrators, heirs, next of kin, successors, assign as follows: A) Waiver, Release, and Discharge from any and all liability for my death, disability, personal injury, property damage, property theft or actions of any kind which may hereafter accrue to me from this event, LaBelle Downtown Revitalization Corporation, The City of LaBelle, Hendry County, its officers, members, event holders, event sponsors, event directors, and event officials. B) Indemnify and hold harmless the entities or persons mentioned in the paragraph from any and all liabilities or claims made by other individuals or entities as a result of any actions during this event.

I hereby consent to receive medical treatment, which may be deemed advisable in the event of injury, accident and/or illness during the event.
I understand that at this event or related activities that I may be photographed/filmed.
I agree to all my photo, video, or film likeness to be used for any legitimate purpose by the event holders, producers, sponsors, and organizers.
This Accident Waiver and Release of Liability shall be construed broadly to provide a release and waiver to the maximum extent possible under applicable law. I hereby certify that I have read this document and I understand its contents.
