Visual Art Application

The City of Gastonia Arts Committee is hosting the City of Gastonia Middle School and High School Visual Arts Show. The show is open to any middle and high school student that resides within the City of Gastonia limits.

Students are required to upload their art by Sunday, February 23.

Judges will be comprised of Gastonia Mayor and City Council and the City of Gastonia Arts Committee. There will be a first place winner for each participating school and overall first through third place winners for both middle school and high school entries. 

Winners will be notified early March and the picture of their artwork will be on display at Gaston MAX (Multicultural Arts Xperience) festival on Saturday, March 22 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. Pictures of winning pieces will be displayed at the Schiele Museum from June 2025 through May 2026. When pieces are taken down in May 2026, an email will be sent to all winning artists to pick up their piece from the Parks and Recreation office. 

The applicant agrees that their art piece will be family friendly.

I, for myself and with my legal guardian (if applicable due to age) do hereby grant to the City of Gastonia a perpetual license to download, reproduce or copy, resize or rescale, use, distribute, display, publish and republish the art work created by me and uploaded to this platform. 

This grant of license is for the unlimited use of said art for any lawful purpose that the City of Gastonia may choose with or without attribution. I warrant that I am the sole creator of the art and that I have the right to grant all rights to the art, and the use of the art by the City will not infringe on the rights of any third party.

Nothing herein constitutes any obligation on the part of the City of Gastonia to make use of the art. I agree that in the event the City of Gastonia elects not to make use of the art, or in the event the City of Gastonia prints my artwork as a winner and displays it at any location, and I or my teacher is notified at any time to pick up the art and myself or my teacher fail to do so within seven days of that notice the art becomes the property of the City and the City may dispose of the art in any way the City may determine without further liability to me. I agree to having my art publicized on social media.

Participating artists will be required to provide a signature in acknowledgement of this clause and terms outlined above on the application.
