A Dickens Holiday - Twenty-Fifth πŸŽ„πŸŒŸ Join us for the enchanting A Dickens Holiday celebration in historic downtown Fayetteville! Inspired by Charles Dickens’ timeless classic, “A Christmas Carol,” this festive event brings the magic of Victorian-era England to life. Here are the details: Date: November 29, 2024 Time: 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM Location: Downtown Fayetteville, centered around Franklin Street (where the Holiday Market is held every Saturday year-round) Admission: Free Footprint: Expanded this year, with street closures from Greenst, Hay Street , Maxwell and Franklin Streets Highlights: Street Performers: Reenactors dressed as Ebenezer Scrooge, Queen Victoria, and other characters from Dickens’ world and including Father Christmas Horse-Drawn Carriage Rides: Explore the historic streets in style. Live Music: on street roving performances by talented musicians. Handmade Crafts and Food Vendors: Discover unique gifts and delicious treats. Downtown Businesses Decorated and in Holiday theme Attendance: Anticipating 19,000 visitors Age-Friendly: All ages welcome Social District: Enjoy the festivities with a cup of cheer—Downtown Fayetteville is within a social district this year.

Professor Elliot Engel - Speaker
Professor Elliot Engel is considered the most insightful, personable, and entertaining academic keynote speaker to come out of academia in the last fifty years. His witty, engaging speaking style imparts hard, factual information, leaving his audiences virtually spellbound, yet charmed by periods of laughter and flashes of insight. Using anecdotes, analysis, and large doses of humor, he gives new insights into the backgrounds, accomplishments, and lives of the great masters of English and American literature. Published in both Great Britain and the US, Engel is the author of seven books including, A Dab of Dickens & A Touch of Twain: Literary Lives from Shakespeare's Old England to Frost's New England. His articles have appeared in numerous magazines, including Newsweek. As one of the most sought after and beloved speakers on literature, his mini-lecture series on his favorite literary hero, Charles Dickens, appeared on PBS stations nationwide. As a professor, Engel has taught courses at Duke University, NC State University, and University of North Carolina. For his scholarship and teaching, he has received North Carolina’s Adult Education Award and the Victorian Society Award of Merit.

Cross Creek Pipes and Drums was founded in 1984 in Fayetteville, North Carolina by Bob Palmer and has continued for 40 years with the hard work of dedicated volunteers from throughout the Cape Fear region. The band is comprised of people interested in learning, performing, and promoting the traditional and contemporary music for the Great Highland Bagpipe and Scottish Regimental Drums.
