About the event
Come to the Kissimmee Civic Center on Saturday, February 8, 2025, to enjoy the City of Kissimmee's African American Read-In event. The African American Read-In is a unique open-mic style event that celebrates African-American and Black authors and artists who have made significant cultural and artistic impacts on our nation and the world. We invite you to volunteer to read or perform a selection at this event. Selections can be provided for you, OR you can bring your own piece. As part of this celebration, all pieces read must have been written by African American and Black Authors.

This application is for those interested in participating as readers at the City of Kissimmee's African American Read-In event. Readers may select their own piece to read at the event, or they may request to have one provided for them by a City of Kissimmee Events Supervisor. Pieces read at the event must take no longer than 3 minutes to read from start to finish.
Should an individual or group choose to incorporate creative dance or improv into their reading, they will be allowed a maximum time of 5 minutes to read from start to finish.
