My paintings depict my need to escape. Not only physically, but mentally, emotionally and spiritually as well. That desire to run away has never been stronger than this past year (and a half). What an exhausting time it has been, who would have thought staying home could tire you out so much. My newest paintings depict the desire to take off, literally. The new works depicting air balloons magically floating away are a direct response to our sense of entrapment. The air balloons are the vehicle of our daydreams, and they offer a gentle lift that is needed to lighten our spirits. They represent a journey that may have a destination, but along the way that could shift, and we are just here to go along for the ride. Each day begins with plans and hopes which can be altered easily by our environment . The end of the day is hopefully a chance to pause and reflect. I feel it’s important to bring a sense of spiritual calm and transcendence to our daily lives. We travel hoping to find bliss and I try to capture that bliss in my work for individuals to enjoy at home.
