This is from my child's play series, which celebrates the creativity and ingenuity found in children's play. One of my most favorite things to see is how children can create something out of nothing. Their imagination guides them in a way that I think we as adults don't tap into as much. So I decided to show the spirit of the child, his or her imagination, and even their thought process in the painting of this little lego tiger (hence liger). Did the child intend the tiger to be fierce or scary? Or was the tiger just a little confused? Was the child making growling noises while making the lego tiger? I wanted to excapsulate all that in the painting.
I chose a bright blue background, not only because I am partial to the color blue as an artist but because it is offset well against the orange and red of the tiger. the original painting was done on uart sanded paper without any underpainting.
