The Imago

"The Imago" is an 8" circular painting I created to celebrate the fantastical whimsy that radiates from newts. My newt, Itty, was actually one of the only constants of my childhood and lived around 10 years with me...which seemed like an eternity. In the fairy tales I created about my hammy and guinea pig family, Itty was the God of Water and Guardian of their Realm. This painting seemed like an appropriate way to honor such a spirit...especially since newts belong to all aspects of the planet. They're born completely aquatic, yet by the time they reach adolescence, they're terrestrial creatures. Then, as adults, they return to the water they were born in...and that cycle is so inspiring to me, and astonishingly beautiful. At any rate, the painting was created on 100% cotton rag cold press watercolor paper. 140 lb. The stars were done in metallic acrylic paint. It comes framed and ready to hang in its new home. The frame is around an inch wide and white.
