"The Enkindling" was one of the last pieces I created while I was pregnant with my daughter, Juniper Orianna, in 2021. Each year, I create a painting that celebrates spring, and I don't think I've ever looked forward to spring more than I did this year...partly because 2020 was such a trial on so many levels, but mostly because we were anticipating her arrival. I included magnolias not only because they're my favorite flower, but because they symbolize strength....and for this little fireball to be born somehow perfectly from my very imperfect body in the middle of a global pandemic... she is surely full of all the strength she'll need to rough it in this craziness.
