Taking Time to Wonder
In making this abstract collage, I was thinking about the possibilities for discovery when I remain curious. The frequent turmoil of the world around us, the uncertainty that can hover at the edge of my mind, can lead me to look for the “right” answers at times. That craving for certainty can close my mind to new possibilities just at a time when I most need to look further. These shapes, textures and colours offered a sense of grounding and protection, while allowing for new ideas to enter and be considered.
Always learning.
This paper collage piece is made from my own handprinted papers, layers of texture and colour create an impressionistic landscape.

About Barbara Buntin
I make paper collage art pieces in my studio in Cobourg ON, drawing inspiration from multiple sources. Just as collage is an assemblage of materials to form a unique composition, the layered influences on my creative life bring me to this point in my art making.
Working with my hand printed paper, I cut and move shapes around the piece until the elements create a pathway for the eye, a place for the imagination to dwell. The shapes, colours and movement in the materials seem animated while I construct the scene, resulting in compositions that echo human energy and interactions. Some compositions remain in abstract form, hinting at unseen forces in transition; while the landscape images reflect the memory and atmosphere of place rather than a descriptive representation.
I enjoy the opportunity to exhibit my work in Galleries and Art Shows both locally and in Toronto as well as welcoming visitors to my studio by appointment. The conversations that arise with the viewer are a sustaining part of the process of making art.
