MEET THE ARTIST: Jean Cockburn
I make art to create beauty. I am inspired by nature and by human interactions with the natural world. I live in British Columbia, Canada on the ocean on Denman Island where I regularly walk the trails and beaches.
In addition to painting, I am a textile artist and print maker, and have shown my work in a number of shows. I have a dedicated painting and printmaking studio space at ARTWRX Studio Gallery in Courtenay, British Columbia where I am supported and inspired by interaction with my fellow artists. My small home studio on Denman Island is full of textile art projects, embroidery threads, dyes, fabrics, and tools.
I am a member of the Denman Craft Shop collective where I sell textile work, fine art prints, paintings, and cards.
I retired from a professional career as an academic librarian in 2008. I studied Fine Arts at North Island College part-time from 2015 to 2020.
