Solid Copper Sculpted Design with Freshwater Pearls

I sculpted this solid copper piece and incorporated freshwater pearls into the design. I love how the metal looks folded, like delicate linens. The pendant comes on a twisty copper chain. This was made in a process using metal clay shaped and molded, then baked in an oven to dry. After sanding and tweaking, I baked it in a kiln at 1750 degrees Fahrenheit for three hours. The clay burned away, leaving only the solid copper that was suspended throughout the clay mixture. After scrubbing clean, I added a patina for an aged look, then polished out highlights. I used a torch to encourage a warmer color in the copper. Finally, I coated the finished product with a sealant. Although sealed, copper shouldn't be submersed in or exposed to water or harsh elements. If the copper rests against skin, skin can sometimes turn green when there is moisture present - this is normal and will go away once the copper is no longer present. Note that I haven't had this happen with necklaces myself, only rings since hands are much more moist. Copper can continue to patina, aging naturally over time.
