After years of poking and prodding, I have finally produced rings (the kind you wear on your finger, not the kind you make chainmail with)!
A lot of you have probably heard me go on about metallurgy, but just a quick refresher - sterling silver is by definition, minimum 92.5% silver and 7.5% other things, traditionally copper. I use sterling because it is dramatically stronger than pure silver. Argentium is a recent and intriguing formulation of sterling silver that is typically 93.5% silver, with a remaining formulation that is a trade secret - germanium, copper, and maybe some other stuff. The difference is that argentium is FAR stronger than regular sterling in my testing, and has the added bonus of being extremely tarnish resistant. This material is what led me to discover that I could weave a ring that is comfortable and flexible, but will hold up to daily wear and tear in a way that regular sterling will not.
This one is a single strand of the Japanese Hana Gusari style, suitable for more delicate fingers. It is the one on the left in the comparison photo.
