Sgraffito is an Italian word meaning to scratch. Sgraffito works are created by applying an underglaze to clay then waiting for that perfect state to begin “scratching” to create my organic designs. Working freehand from a sketch inspired by nature, my designs are inspired by my research into the recurring images of the flower as a reoccurring theme historically in artworks of all cultures throughout time.

Living and working on the beautiful island of Galveston, Sandra Viser is a ceramic artist with a life-long passion for the arts which is reflected in her works. A painter and later a mixed media artist, she has truly found her calling as a ceramic artist.
For the last few years she has been focusing on sgraffito pottery. Sgraffito is an Italian word meaning "to scratch". Sandra’s sgraffito works are created by applying an underglaze to clay then waiting for that perfect state to begin “scratching” into the clay to create her unique organic designs.
