Education is a key focus area of The Junior League of Tampa, with a particular emphasis on emerging literacy. However, the League noticed areas across Hillsborough County that were under served and did not have access to literacy promotion resources.
In 2016 the MILO bus was launched in partnership with the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County, WEDU PBS, and the Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library. MILO stands for Mobile Interactive Literacy Opportunity. The MILO book bus has evolved to a MILO sprinter van providing greater mobility and access to visit under served locations around Hillsborough County hosting literacy events for the entire family.
This year MILO will host events all over Hillsborough County in partnership with the Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library. In 2019-2020, over 10,000 books were distributed.
Beyond these stand alone events, the League supports a network of Giving Libraries across the county. These Giving Libraries house free books for children of all ages and reading levels. Children and families can stop by any Giving Library to pick out free books through the year.
Your purchase will provide 10 books for a family library!

The Giving Shop by The Junior League of Tampa's Holiday Gift Market
The Junior League of Tampa’s largest fundraiser, Holiday Gift Market, is going virtual this year! The 2020 event will offer participants an opportunity to support small businesses in an online shopping marketplace, engage in interactive virtual events, and contribute to the Junior League of Tampa’s community projects.
The event will take place for a full month, November 14-December 13, 2020 on our new virtual platform. Going digital will keep our community safe and healthy as well as allowing us to reach an even larger audience to experience HGM.
Small business merchants this year will be selling everything from clothing, jewelry, and handbags to food, art and children’s items. Net proceeds from the event including a part of your purchases will fund the League’s community projects and programs around Tampa Bay.
Founded in 1926, The Junior League of Tampa, Inc. is an organization of 1,900 women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
