A blue jay maneuvers itself along the pole of a bird feeder, dancing up and down its length in its attempts to access the feeder! This mixed media piece is a 8" x 10" detailed scratchboard etching colored with a variety of inks and watercolors.
Scratchboard is a relatively unknown medium, although it has been around since the 19th century. A kaolin clay tablet is coated with black India ink, and the artist etches into it with a variety of sharp tools to reveal their design. The revealed clay etching can be left white or further tinted with colored inks or watercolor paints.
This piece includes a solid wood floater frame in a black satin finish with sawtooth hanger. Artwork is signed on the front with the artist's pen name; on the reverse, it is titled and signed with the artist's full name. Artwork has been varnished with a matte finish, and is best displayed without glazing/glass.
