Description

This is my latest self-portrait oil painting. This painting is about the journey of looking inward, discovering that true happiness lies within, and appreciating the items/treasures that bring me the most joy. All of the treasures that are "spiraling outward and/ or inward from my portrait, have been collected over the years…This spiral of items, also reflects my fascination with the Fibonacci sequence, which is found in nature..the spiral that shows up in seashells, flowers, plants, etc. Finding joy in the small details within nature, helped boost my mentality during 2020… I was struggling last year, mentally and creatively, and had to take a break from my artwork…. It was a break I needed to regroup, and truly think about my goals for my life and for my artwork. I began organizing my art studio, and put together items that I collected over all these years of my life. Things I’ve found on the beach, in antique stores, etc. These items were carefully placed in treasure cabinets in my art studio…I see these items every day, and they spark a joy within me, and help inspire me to keep creating paintings that bring me joy…These paintings will then bring joy to others…and that’s a gift I am grateful to share with the world. Each day, I became happier and happier, by being grateful for my life and my artwork. I am grateful to have the ability to create and share my love and joy for painting with the world... I acknowledge that each day is a gift…and we can all find joy in the small items we find along the way.

Once they’re sunken into the canvas, you immediately begin to see and understand that person for who they are. And then I build out from there, and start piecing the face together. It’s a beautiful process to watch as a person comes to life on canvas. With every portrait, my goal is to capture the spirit of the person onto canvas.
