They take up a lot of space in the kiln and sometimes warp. There might be some wonkiness to add to the charm but if the wonkiness is extreme, a hammer is taken to the plate. This challenge dictates the higher pricing on handmade dinnerware. I create each piece by hand, step-by-step, from white stoneware. Slabs are rolled flat - then cut and tissue transfer paper is cut with a jagged edge and texture applied to the other side of the design. Then the slab is pressed over a form to give the shape. A coil is rolled & added to the bottom of the plates. The piece is then glazed and fired to 2185 degrees in my electric kiln, at my San Diego home studio. It is lead-free and safe to use in your microwave & dishwasher.
