Orthoceras is the ancient ancestor of cephalopods such as nautilus, octopus, and squid. It existed in the Middle Ordovician age, over 400 million years ago, when the ocean was home to almost all animal life. The fossil is left by the chambered shell-like mantle which once sheltered this graceful, delicately-tentacled little creature. The name "Orthoceras" means "straight-horn." This throne-like designs showcases the elegance and symmetry of this primordial relic, and has an almost bio-mechanical aesthetic.
