Opuntia sulphurea, also known as prickly pear, is easily distinguishable by its round shape, green color, and long thick spines. This cactus is commonly found in and around Argentina, inhabiting arid areas from the Western plains to the Eastern side of the Andes mountain range. It is known for its adaptability to various environments, resulting in the identification of several subspecies based on the number of spines per areole. All subspecies share a bright yellow flower, which gives the plant its species name "sulphurea". Unlike other Opuntia species, Opuntia sulphurea grows in clumps rather than upwards, with a diameter of one to two meters. This cactus is highly resilient, able to survive harsh conditions such as agriculture and cattle grazing. Please Note: Plant will ship bare root with little to no dirt, and you will receive a plant similar to the one in the photo. It is advised to handle this plant with caution and use gloves or tongs as it is covered in spines.Returns & exchanges: Not acceptedPlease contact us if you have any issues with your order
