Pencil and Colored Pencil
9"x12"
I have a love/hate relationship with doing detailed work. I loved making this piece and, I love the outcome because of how much detail I was able to show. This piece was part of my sketchbook assignments; the prompt was to “Draw a nut and a bolt.” My first language is Spanish; for me, a NUT can mean a pecan, an almond, a walnut, any type of nut, so I drew an actual pecan. I was very confused because these two objects are not alike but I thought it was an interesting idea so I did it. Then, I asked my uncle: "Can you get me a bolt?" I don’t know what a bolt is. He got me a bolt and when he gave it to me he said: “This is a bolt and a nut.” That is when I realized that the prompt was to draw a NUT screwed into a bolt.
