At the end of the road on the North Shore of Kauai, is the Na’Pali Trail. It is one of the most amazingly beautiful trails on this planet. After hiking two miles along the jungle coast, accompanied by the sweet smell of guava and rich red volcanic earth, Hanakapiai Beach appears, with it’s golden sand and turquoise waters. You can stop at the beach or continue two miles up the river to the waterfall, or continue another harrowing nine miles to the magical Kalalau Valley where you can camp in a jungle paradise.
This house isn’t on the trail, but when I think of a dream home in a dream home location, this is it…imagine living in a little island hut overlooking the sweet blue powerful Pacific Hawaiian ocean. I don’t need much, a simple shack, with an incredible view, in an amazing location.
This painting was originally sculpted out of wood utilizing four layers of 1/4” Birchwood. The patterning in the water is actually the natural wood grain pattern that I traced over with oil paint. I initially didn’t plan on painting the water in this pattern, but when it came time to paint the water…the patterns were there in the grain, just waiting to be serendipitously painted.
