N502. Aluminum Riveted Dark Green Beach Glass & Gun-Metal Silver Necklace. The pendant is Beach Glass from Lake Superior's shore; I drilled & set it with an aluminum rivet. Beach glass is broken glass discarded into a large lake where it churns until it becomes beautiful glass gems. Folklore says it comes from a mermaid's tears after Neptune banished her to the lake bottom after she calmed the water to save a ship captain she loved. The chain is gun-metal silver twisted curb, with a seashell charm at back. The chain measures 25.75” long, but can be worn shorter; the pendant measures 0.75” by 3”.

My jewelry reflects my passion for antiquing & recycling. I love working with early plastics (e.g., bakelite), found objects (e.g., vintage pinback buttons, lithograph tin, old bottle tops, transit tokens, electrical resisters, etc.), broken vintage jewelry & charms, metal (especially copper), & gemstone beads to create something fun & interesting to wear. I use a variety of techniques in my work, including cold connections, texturing, soldering, riveting, wire-wrapping, enameling, & forming. I take jewelry classes at the Des Moines Art Center, & enjoy learning & experimenting with new techniques. Each piece of jewelry I design is unique, & comes with a story that describes the history of the materials used &/or the message/meaning of the work.
