N413. 1969 Work for Peace November 13 & 14 & Copper Necklace. For the pendant, I bezel-set the pin-back button on copper I textured with vintage lace & patinated with liver of sulfur; with a dove cut out of the back. I soldered copper wire onto the pendant for the bail. For the chain, I used oval copper cable link, with a dove I cut from copper at the back. This pin commemorates the November 13 & 14, 1969 “March Against Death” in Washington DC protesting the Vietnam War. The necklace measures 20.25” around, (excluding the pendant which measures 1.5” x 2”), but can be worn shorter.

My jewelry reflects my passion for antiquing & recycling. I love working with early plastics (e.g., bakelite), found objects (e.g., vintage pinback buttons, lithograph tin, old bottle tops, transit tokens, electrical resisters, etc.), broken vintage jewelry & charms, metal (especially copper), & gemstone beads to create something fun & interesting to wear. I use a variety of techniques in my work, including cold connections, texturing, soldering, riveting, wire-wrapping, enameling, & forming. I take jewelry classes at the Des Moines Art Center, & enjoy learning & experimenting with new techniques. Each piece of jewelry I design is unique, & comes with a story that describes the history of the materials used &/or the message/meaning of the work.
