Fragrance Notes: Currant & Grapefruit
In 1920, Prohibition went into effect, but America partied on. Celebrating American History with our new Prohibition candle series. Our moonshine candle has fragrance notes of Currant and Grapefruit, botanically garnished with Chamomile, Rose Petals, and Orange Peel.
Prohibition began on January 17, 1920, when the Volstead Act went into effect. A total of 1,520 Federal Prohibition agents (police) were tasked with enforcement. The most common source of alcohol in Prohibition was alcohol cooked up in illegal stills, producing what came to be called moonshine. Home-distilled moonshine was common in rural area of Virginia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee. Poorly produced moonshine can be contaminated, mainly from materials used in the construction of the still. Using these methods often resulted in blindness or lead poisoning in those who consumed tainted liquor. By the end of Prohibition, the Prohibition Bureau was seizing nearly a quarter-million illegal stills each year. Prohibition officially ended with the ratification of the Twenty-First Amendment in 1933.
