This is one piece from my newest Keum-bo collection in which oxidized sterling silver and 24K gold come together in beautiful, bold and geometric designs. Using the ancient Korean technique of keum-bo, I have fused 24K gold to the surface of sterling silver and then oxidized certain areas for contrast. The contrast of the rich 24k gold color against the oxidized silver is lovely. I have used a very deep dark greyish black patina for oxidation. These earrings have had many different techniques and materials come together in its design and creation! Oval discs have been cut out, textured and then domed. Once oxidized, this texture and pattern comes to life as the more recessed areas are "pockets" for deeper color. The texture along with the curvature of these ovals gives them wonderful dimension! The gorgeous long marquis shapes that hang from them have been cut from wire and then forged, shaped and soldered into their pretty shapes. The variation of thickness achieved with forging adds wonderful dimension to this portion of the earrings as well! The pop of subtle 24K gold on these shapes really brings them to light. The end result is a pair of earrings that are bold but yet lightweight and easy to wear! They certainly are stunning and command attention! Lever back ear wires in sterling silver are sturdy, secure and really attractive....some of the nicest and highest quality available to professional jewelers.
