Fredrick Prescott is widely recognized as one of the most important kinetic sculpture artists of our time. He was born May 18, 1949 in Palo Alto, California, and is a self-taught artist. He resides in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
His work is seen as a blend of folk art, pop art, and technically advanced construction. Fredrick Prescott’s outdoor wind-driven monumental sculptures are colorful and gigantic, always life-size and sometimes larger. They invariably make a huge statement on the landscape they live upon and create excitement and joy in the viewer. Welded contoured lines enhance the natural curves of the animal’s bodies, while giving each form a marvelously graphic impact. Ingeniously designed with sculptural methods that have been perfected over time, each sculpture is one of a kind. Through variations on size, body contours, colors and patina, no two are alike.
Collectors of his work include Sylvestor Stallone, Kathleene Sullivan, and former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor. He has created work for the Warner Bros. and Disney Studios, and his sculpture is in the permanent collections of museums across the U.S. as well as internationally. His pieces range in size from tabletop kinetic sculpture to commissioned pieces that fill public parks.
