From the Greek words λίθος (líthos) and ὄψ (óps), meaning 'stone' and 'face' respectively, the name reflects the plants' rock-like appearance. These unique plants, also known as pebble plants or living stones, have evolved to blend in with their surroundings to avoid being eaten.
