Lithops olivacea, a member of the Aizoaceae family, are remarkable plants with green to pinkish purple coloration. These plants have a reputation for being difficult, but with careful attention to their specific needs, they can thrive. Unlike most plants, Lithops have two growing seasons and two dormant seasons per year. Overwatering is the greatest risk, so it is important to water as the soil is about to dry out in spring through early summer, and in the fall. During winter and hot summer weather, it is best to keep the plants on the dry side, as hot temperatures can cause them to go dormant and wet roots during dormancy can lead to rot. Frost should also be avoided to protect the plants.
