As a female artist my art is foremost about emotion. I must create marks and form balance, infuse motion with emotion until all become a painted story. In 2018 feeling very strongly that I wanted to put some happy into the world I found myself creating a new series of artworks titled The Happy Girls. I have focused solely on creating HAPPY GIRLS during the pandemic. I have to admit they kept me smiling during this difficult time we were/are living in. The Happy Girls radiate joy, inspiration, innocence, curiosity. Most of all, they radiate love.
An imaginative, time-consuming process, I paint acrylic on mylar, my colours and strokes that are always embedded in my art. I then cut the mylar into random shapes highlighting colour or line. Pieces of all sizes from many paintings are building blocks that become clothing, hats, scenic pieces. As I see structure, movement and the girl’s personality developing, I imagine a story. This helps me complete the artwork.
