Hillel Smith is a wandering and wondering visual artist originally from Los Angeles, now based in Washington, DC. He utilizes contemporary media, including spray paint and digital software, to create new manifestations of traditional Jewish forms. His murals grace walls around the United States, Europe, and Israel, redefining Jewish spaces, and he is the founder of the Jewish Street Art Festival. His work has been exhibited widely and he is proud that his projects have found their way into classrooms and homes worldwide. He provides graphic design and illustration for Jewish institutions large and small, as well as for touring comedians and theatrical productions. Hillel also writes, lectures, and leads workshops on Hebrew typography and Jewish art, focusing on creative output as a tool for the construction of identity and connection.
