You see them everywhere in Southern California. Sometimes they are tall, sometimes short , sometimes skinny and sometimes with a mass of dry furry fronds hanging around their tops like a skirt. They are icons of Southern California. This lone California fan palm rises tall against the brilliant white light of the sun. Deep crimsons, fiery reds, fade into buttery oranges, and sunny golden yellows.
This particular palm is inspired by a palm close to my rental house on Mission Bay. I pass it in the morning as I ride my bike, or in the afternoon when I take our dog, Maybe, down to the beach. I'm struck by how incredibly tall and skinny it is, and at the top, an explosion of voluminous furry leaves.
This original measures 18" x 56" x 1.5," and is gallery wrapped (painting continues around the sides). In person, the painting is vibrant and filled with color, however the color in the image above is a little saturated (more accurate in person).
Prints will be made available in varying sizes. Contact the Studio if interested in prints.
