It had been five years since I last visited the coastal redwood forest of Northern California. Little had changed, except for the brilliant pink flowering rhododendrons I had timed my visit to coincide with. Why would it have, since a few years was a minuscule period compared to the thousands of years it took for these trees, the worlds tallest, to grow to over three hundred feet high. No one picture or description can capture the immensity of the redwood forest. These towering giants prefer cool damp weather. They find solitude from the warm California summer sun in the fog created by the cool waters of the Pacific. A long quiet walk through these giants provides only a glimpse of their majesty.
